How Much Does a Small Business Website Cost in Malaysia? (2026)

By Saffron Kite · · 7 min read

If you run a small business in Malaysia, you’ve probably seen website quotes from a few hundred ringgit to tens of thousands. Both can be legitimate. The difference is usually in what’s included and what you’ll pay every year afterwards. This guide breaks down the costs and the ranges commonly quoted in 2026, so you can compare offers properly.

The short answer

A business website has three cost parts: the domain (your address), hosting (where the site lives, plus SSL) and the build (design, content and setup). After the first year, you pay to renew the domain and hosting, and sometimes a maintenance fee.

Malaysian quotes commonly start from around RM800–2,500 for a one-page site and RM1,500–6,000 for a basic company site, with fuller SME and agency builds running much higher. Some pricing guides estimate domain, hosting and maintenance at roughly RM1,000–3,000 a year when a provider manages them for you, although a lightweight site can cost far less to keep online.

Always ask one question before paying a deposit: “How much will I pay in year two?” A cheap first year with an expensive renewal is the most common surprise.

What you are paying for

The build is where prices vary most. It covers planning the content, designing the pages, adding WhatsApp and Waze or Google Maps buttons, connecting the domain and submitting the site to Google. The price goes up with:

  • More pages, such as separate pages for each service or outlet.
  • A product catalogue with photos, prices and categories.
  • Online payments, bookings or logins, which are a different level of work from an information site.
  • Copywriting, especially in more than one language (English, Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese).
  • Extra rounds of changes beyond what’s included.

Commonly quoted price ranges in Malaysia

These rough ranges are compiled from pricing guides published by several Malaysian web design firms in 2026. They are not an official survey, and each firm defines “basic” or “corporate” differently. Use them for a sense of scale.

Type of siteCommonly quotedNotes
One-page landing page±RM800 – 2,500Agencies may quote up to around RM4,000–5,000.
Basic company site (3–5 pages)±RM1,500 – 6,000Check if domain, hosting and email are included.
Fuller SME / corporate site (6–15 pages)±RM3,000 – 14,000Often includes copywriting and basic SEO setup.
E-commerce store±RM4,000 – 25,000+Plus payment gateway fees per transaction.

By provider, freelancers commonly quote around RM1,500–6,000 for a small business site, while custom builds by agencies often start around RM8,000 and can pass RM30,000. A lower price isn’t automatically a worse site; a higher one isn’t automatically better.

Domain: .com, .my or .com.my?

A .com can be registered by anyone and typically costs around RM60–150 a year depending on the registrar. A .com.my tells customers you’re a Malaysian business, but it’s reserved for businesses registered with SSM. Registrars will ask for your SSM documents (for example the company incorporation certificate for a Sdn Bhd, or the business registration for a sole proprietorship or partnership), and the domain should match or clearly relate to your registered name. Individuals can register a plain .my instead.

Published .com.my prices are commonly around RM80–200 a year. SSM and MYNIC also run a Go.MY initiative that gives newly registered businesses a reduced rate on one .com.my domain, so it’s worth checking if you’ve just registered.

Whatever the ending, make sure the domain is registered in your name or your company’s name, not the designer’s.

Hosting and yearly running costs

Hosting prices range from a few hundred ringgit to a few thousand a year, depending on the provider and how heavy the site is. Watch for first-year promo rates that double or triple at renewal. A WordPress site with many plugins usually needs stronger hosting and may carry plugin licence fees; a lightweight site can run on efficient hosting at low cost.

Basic SSL (the padlock) is free from many providers today, though some still charge for it. Compare offers by the two-year total: year-one price plus the year-two renewal.

Hidden costs to watch for

  • Renewal prices that only appear after the first year.
  • Domain held in the provider’s name, making it hard to leave.
  • Fees for every small change, like updating a price list or promo banner.
  • Paid plugins or themes with yearly licences.
  • Business email billed separately.
  • No access to your site files if you stop paying.
  • Monthly maintenance contracts with no clear scope.

Working with a studio outside Malaysia

Plenty of Malaysian businesses work with designers in other countries, since the work happens online anyway. If you go this route, check a few extra things: which currency you’ll be invoiced in, how payment works, how quickly they reply on WhatsApp, and that the domain and files will still be yours. A free mockup before any payment is a simple way to judge quality and communication.

Questions to ask before you pay

  1. What is the total I’ll pay in year two?
  2. Whose name is the domain registered in?
  3. Can I see examples on my phone?
  4. How long will it take, and how many rounds of changes are included?
  5. How do I change prices or photos later, and what does it cost?
  6. If I leave, do I get my site files?
  7. What exactly will you do for Google? Nobody can honestly guarantee page one. Submitting the site and building it cleanly is what’s reasonable.

Don’t forget the free option too: for a local shop or service, a Google Business Profile often brings customers before a website does. Here’s our step-by-step Google Maps guide.

Where Saffron Kite fits

We’re a small web studio in Batam, Indonesia, working remotely with small businesses in the region over WhatsApp, email and video call. To be fair, here are our own prices in ringgit, using the same yardstick as above. Every plan includes a .com domain for one year registered in your name, hosting and SSL, WhatsApp and Google Maps buttons, Google Search Console setup and up to three rounds of changes.

Portfolio pricing (30% off) is for our first 3 clients, on the condition that we may show your site in our portfolio and you give us a short testimonial when it’s done. Extras are written down upfront too: a content update is RM40 per change, a care plan is RM120 a month, an extra page is RM200, and Google Business Profile setup is RM250 one-time. If your project doesn’t fit a plan, we’re happy to quote in MYR or SGD on WhatsApp.

What we don’t do: online stores with automated checkout, or admin panels for editing the site yourself. If you need those, a different provider is a better fit.

We start with a free homepage mockup, with no obligation. You only pay a deposit if you like what you see.
